How ProofIt Works
ProofIt turns a private file into timestamped, independently verifiable evidence of when that content existed in a particular form—using hashing, trusted timestamps, and blockchain records.
Step 1
Upload your file
Securely upload documents, images, code, designs, or other digital assets. Original files are not published on the blockchain.
Step 2
Generate a SHA-256 hash
ProofIt creates a cryptographic fingerprint of your file. Only this hash—not the original file—is used for timestamping and blockchain registration.
Step 3
Trusted timestamp (RFC 3161)
Where enabled, ProofIt submits the hash to a Trusted Timestamp Authority. The signed TSA token helps prove the hash existed at a specific UTC time and remains independently verifiable.
Step 4
Blockchain registration
The hash is recorded on Ethereum as a tamper-evident public record. Once written, that blockchain record is not deleted or reversed if you cancel your subscription.
Step 5
Certificate issued
You receive a digital evidence certificate with certificate ID, SHA-256 hash, blockchain reference, trusted timestamp details where applicable, and a QR verification link.
Step 6
Verify anytime
Anyone with the certificate ID can check authenticity on ProofIt’s verify page. Evidence of existence, time, and integrity is not the same as legal ownership.
What happens if you cancel
- Original uploaded files are deleted 30 days after subscription cancellation.
- Certificate records remain accessible for 1 year. After the original file is deleted, the certificate remains accessible, but ProofIt can no longer verify the original file itself unless you provide the file again.
- SHA-256 hash/record: permanent.
- Trusted timestamp (TSA) evidence: treated as permanent and independently verifiable if you retain the token.
- Blockchain record: permanent and not deleted or reversed on cancel.
